The best graffiti in 3D letters

Are letters in graffiti easier?

The best graffiti in the world in letters
There are many people not closely involved in the graffiti world with the typical opinion of “what I like are the drawings, I don’t like letters because they are easier etc.” and for this reason I have created this article which will serve to educate society a little more as it will be possible to see that letters can be much more complex than any kind of hyperrealism.

Here you have what are, in my opinion, the best graffiti artists in the world in 3D letters

I will firstly explain a little about the 3D style which is also called pastel model. The aim of the 3D style is to create a relief effect which gives the impression that it is jumping out of the wall. To achieve this three dimensional effect it is necessary to give volume to the range of colours and never without a border (as they would lose 100% with this effect). They can be done using a single range of colours as this is the best and easiest way to achieve it as when we mix a lot of different colours it complicates matters and one has to be a real expert to achieve the desired result.

There are all kinds of opinions because, as I usually say, not even “God” is agreeable to all and besides which, if “God” were a graffiti artist he would be even more envied. But the opinions are there and according to some of the more radical writers this style is not the essence of “graffiti” as it usually dominated by fine art or graphic design students and in the origins of hip hop the letters were totally flat and with a decorative border.

Let’s get on with the show… here is a small gallery with names of the best artists in 3D letters or pastel model and at the same time the most famous graffiti artists in the world in this style.

Daim Luenenburg (Germany)
The creator of the 3D style is unknown as it was probably a development from letter graffiti with many people testing until achieving the effect. However, the most well-known and one of those who best exploited this style was Daim of Fx, a respected and admired German writer who in 2000 already produced letters like this.

Peeta Venice (Italy)
For me, Peeta, is at present the best 3D artist in the world. He started in 1993 and is a member of the EAD crew (Padua, Italy), FX and RWK crews (NYC). His graffiti deceive the eye as they appear to be more sculptures than paintings. (he is also a sculptor).

Loomit  Munich (Germany)
In 1983, this great artist started to surprise us with his work under the philosophy that working in public is the best means to feed his creative ego. Dust to dust and it will be then when he will do something important knowing that many minds have passed by his murals.

Satone Munich (Germany)
He is an illustrator and artist originally from Venezuela who discovered his love of graffiti in 1991. He mixes the graphic style of vectorals with abstract art. I met this writer at a competition in Burgos and it was really incredible to watch him painting as his outlines were so clean that he gave the feeling that he was painting with a brush and I never saw him clean any of his borders – something which I had ever seen before.

Does Sittard (Netherlands)
This is perhaps not a 100% 3D style or pastel model but as it is a such a personal and different style I would not know where to classify it in the letter styles. What is clear is that this great writer must be included here as he is the best graffiti artist in the world making letters including all styles. He started in the world of graffiti in 1997 and together with his crew, LoveLetters, made up of 10 European writers from Germany, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands he never fails to surprise us. He is also a member of the ironlak brand.

One thing which not a lot of people know about him is that he was a professional footballer until a serious knee injury ended his career: sad for him but lucky for all lovers of graffiti art.

Shadow París (France)
This incredible graffiti writer is for me the best in France. He started painting in 1996 and it was in 2003 when he decided to improve his skills mixing his training as a graphic designer with being a graffiti writer to create his own studio and thus offer his services to companies that wanted to distance themselves from the competition through art.

Seak o Seakone (Germany)
An internationally renowned artist in the graffiti world and on the streets of Germany. In his home city of Cologne he has received the culture award for his dedication and his artistic career.

Red France
This French artist is followed by many in his fotolog page http://www.fotolog.com/red_t2l/ which is regularly updated (almost daily) and shows the amount of time that he devotes to painting on walls making incredible three dimensional pieces. His style is easily recognisable by the mix of a highly complex wildstyle and on occasions realistic elements which go with it on many occasions using greys with some other tone but what is clear is that he is a very accomplished graffiti artist.
